Fears same person killed pets

- JOHN BETT news@westerndailypress.co.uk

POLICE are investigating a potential pet killer after a dog and cat were killed – and a vet says the deaths are linked.

The cat, named Minty, was found on her owner’s doorstep with significant injuries following a horrific knife attack.

That attack in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, comes just five days after a three-year-old dog, a doberman, was stabbed to death in Chippenham.

Now fears have been sparked that the attacks may be linked, and that a pet killer could be on the loose in the area.

Minty was found on her own door

A YEOVIL woman yesterday completed the Virtual London Marathon to raise money for the British Heart Foundation.

Sam Sone was joined for the last couple of miles by her son Jacob whose life was saved as a baby thanks to the charity.

Her Justgiving page says: “Our son, Jacob, was born with a congential heart defect which was a Ventricular step on Sunday, September 27.

She was rushed to an out-of-hours veterinary surgery for emergency surgery but was later transferred to intensive care specialists Langford Vets near Bristol.

Minty later stopped eating and began to deteriorate before the decision was made to put her to sleep.

Minty suffered stab wounds to her neck and legs and two open slash wounds to the stomach.

The same vet is understood to have treated Ruby the Doberman

Septum Defect (VSD) which means that he was dying! Without the fantastic surgeon at Southampton Hospital our 13-week-old baby would have died, and yet at almost 11 years old he is fighting fit.

“Without the research that the British Heart Foundation carry out for all heart conditions my story would have had a very different outcome.” and said the cases may be linked.

Minty’s owner James Smith, 37, said: “I’d like not to think it is linked to the Chippenham dog killing, but from what the vet has said, she believes it is.

“We’ve lost a family member. She was such a small animal but a big part of our family. Since she passed away, we return to the house after the school run and expect to see her at the door ready to run in out of the rain. The house feels empty.

“Our children, aged 3 and 6, keep asking where she is. Fortunately they didn’t see her in the condition we found her in.

“I’m just concerned whoever did this will start targeting humans at some point. Hopefully, they are found so they can get the help they need.”

Wiltshire Police have launched an investigation into the incidents, with PC Darren Willis heading up the probe.

He labelled the Malmesbury attack as a “horrendous act on an innocent animal”.

PC Willis said: “We are really keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the Corston area, specifically the area of Mill Lane.

“As well as this, if you didn’t witness anything yourself but you have information which could lead to the identity of the person or persons involved, please do get in touch.”
