I’m quite happy with a point, says Yeovil boss

-

YEOVIL manager Darren Sarll was happy to take a point from the Glovers’ opening National League fixture of the season at King’s Lynn despite conceding an equaliser just three minutes from time.

Substitute Adam Marriott netted in the 87th minute to earn King’s Lynn a 2-2 draw at The Walks in their maiden fifth-tier encounter.

Ian Culverhouse’s men twice had to come from behind as the National League North champions secured a point against a side beaten in last season’s play-offs.

Sarll admitted the Green & Whites were far from their best, but cut an upbeat figure in the postmatch interviews.

He said: “At 2-1 up with the group of people we had on the pitch I thought we had more than enough to take that home, but I thought our performance levels were quite low today, so I’m quite happy with the point based on what I saw from the players.

“I thought they (King’s Lynn) were very good, well coached, and I thought they played very well.”

After a goalless first half in which Yeovil’s Rhys Murphy fired wide when through on goal, central defender Luke Wilkinson nodded the visitors in front a minute after the break.

Yeovil goalkeeper Adam Smith pulled off a stunning save to deny the hosts’ Sonny Carey a leveller, but he could do nothing about Dayle Southwell’s equaliser in the 76th minute.

However, front man Courtney Duffus restored Yeovil’s lead five minutes later with a powerful strike, only for Marriott to ensure a share of the spoils.

The Glovers must now turn their attention to tomorrow night’s home game against Wealdstone, who had their opening game at home to Chesterfield called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

And while that could leave the Stones fresh, or conversely lacking in match practice, Sarll is focusing on getting his men ready to go again after a tough encounter at the Norfolk side.

He added: “It’s a bit more than just dusting ourselves off, it will be reattaching muscles to bones, and ligaments, and tendons, so it will be an intense three days leading up to Tuesday.”
