Tigers dumped out by minnows Christchurch

-

HEREFORD, Chippenham and Bath have all made it through to today’s FA Cup third qualifying round draw, but fellow sixth-tier side Gloucester City suffered an embarrassing exit at the hands of Wessex League club Christchurch.

James Rowe’s Tigers lost 6-5 on penalties after a 1-1 draw – and they needed a last-gasp leveller to even take the game to a shoot-out.

While Gloucester were largely in control of the game, they were caught on the hour when the hosts scored against the run of play.

However, three minutes into stoppage-time, Khaellem Bailey came up with an improvised finish to send the match to spot-kicks.

The first 11 shoot-out penalties were converted before, with City trailing 6-5, George Carline had his effort saved and the Dorset side went through.

There was also shoot-out drama at Chippenham, where the hosts emerged 5-4 victors following a 2-2 draw with Poole.

Chippenham raced into a twogoal lead with Brad Ash and Joe Hanks on target with the game barely ten minutes old.

However, Will Spetch soon cut the deficit and Tony Lee levelled from the penalty spot ten minutes from time.

But when the shoot-out began, though, Poole were less sure from the spot, Corby Moore missing the opening kick, which proved to be the only failure.

Bath required a deflected late winner to see off Winchester 3-2.

Tom Richards claimed the vital goal after Tommy Conway’s brace, initially putting the Romans into an early lead before netting the equaliser after Winchester had turned things around.

Hereford, meanwhile, saw off Gosport Borough 3-1 with Lenell John-Lewis on the mark twice and Tom Owen-Evans scoring from the penalty spot.

Elsewhere, Bristol Manor Farm went through with a 7-6 triumph on spot-kicks after a 1-1 draw.

Mike Bryant gave Manor Farm the lead, while goalkeeper Luc Rees was the hero for the Bristol club in the shoot-out.

Taunton, meanwhile, survived a second-half fightback to knock out near neighbours Tiverton 5-3.

The Somerset side bagged four goals in less than 20 first-period minutes to get the job done.

Having fallen behind after 20 minutes, Taunton soon equalised through Dan Sullivan, before Toby Holmes, Gethyn Hill and Jamie Short put them three goals clear.

The Devon side pulled back to within one goal in the second half, but Owen Howe’s penalty with ten minutes to go sealed the victory.
