New stadium remains a priority, says Rovers CEO

-

We’ve said it so many times, it still remains the priority and aspiration to get a stadium. That remains our commitment and Wael’s too.”

Meanwhile, teenage midfielder Lucas Tomlinson has joined Bath City on loan from Rovers.

The 19-year-old, who signed a new contract at the Memorial Stadium in the summer, will look to get playing time with Jerry Gill’s Romans in the National League South.

Tomlinson scored twice for Rovers in pre-season, and made five appearances last term – including a 16-minute cameo in the win at Ipswich in December.

But the arrival of boss Ben Garner has seen his playing time reduced and several subsequent signings have pushed him down the pecking order.

Bristol City will welcome back captain Tomas Kalas from injury sooner rather than later – indeed he could be in line to face Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.

The club-record signing, 27, gave an update on his condition on Geoff Twentyman’s Sound of the City radio programme this week to hand a boost to the Robins.

Kalas has been out injured since picking up a shoulder knock against Northampton in the Carabao Cup on September 16.

There were fears initially that Kalas would miss months of action with a broken collarbone, but the club soon allayed them to say that scans had shown that he would be back much sooner and it was only some ligament damage. Kalas is now expected to be in contention to face Barnsley this weekend.

“I’m pretty close to being match fit,” he said on BBC Radio Bristol.

“So I’m hoping that this week I’ll be reintroduced to the full session. I believe that Wednesday is the plan for me to train properly with contact and everything.

“So I’ve got Wednesday and Friday in me and I’m hopefully ready for Saturday’s game,” he said.

City head to Barnsley looking to maintain their 100 per cent win record in the Championship to date.

Only Reading can match their four wins out of four so far.

After Barnsley, the Robins then have two games at home against Middlesbrough and Swansea as their Championship campaign continues.

Portugal and Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 35-year-old is said to be “doing well, without symptoms, and in isolation”, with no further positive tests reported in the Portugal squad ahead of tonight’s Nations League Group A3 match against Sweden.

The Portuguese Football Federation confirmed in a statement: “Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests, all with a negative result, and are available to Fernando Santos.”

Former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward Ronaldo had played in both of Portugal’s matches so far during the international break. He started against Spain in Lisbon, coming off late during the second half of the goalless draw, and then played the whole of the Nations League A3 fixture against France.
