Woman arrested after man found dead

-

A MURDER investigation is underway in a Somerset village after the death of a man on Saturday night.

Police said a woman has been arrested after the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

At around 9.15pm on Saturday night, ambulance crews called police to an address in Berrow, between Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare, where a man had been seriously injured, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene – a home in the Parsonage Road area of Berrow – and Avon and Somerset police’s Major Crime Investigation Team was called in.

Police said formal identification of the dead man is yet to take place, but his next of kin have been informed of the news.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out ‘in due course’, said police.

Det Insp Roger Doxsey, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said inquiries were at a very early stage. Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the man’s family,” he said.

“A family liaison officer will provide specialist support to them at this difficult time. One woman has been arrested and she is currently in police custody. Our inquiries are at a very early stage, but we believe this to be an isolated incident at this time,” he added.

“A police cordon remains in place, and will do for some time while enquiries are carried out. Additional patrols will be taking place as a precaution and we’d urge anyone with concerns about this incident to talk to those officers,” he added.

“We’d ask any witnesses with information that may help our enquiries to call 101 and give the call-handler the reference number 5221 032 125,” he added.
