1882: During England’s record 13-0 win over Ireland, Howard Vaughton (five goals) and Arthur Brown (four) became the first England footballer­s to score hat-tricks in a full internatio­nal.

1933: Sir Bobby Robson was born. Following a playing career, he managed Ipswich to European success and also took charge of PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona after taking England to the 1990 World Cup semi-finals. His final job was as manager of Newcastle before he lost a long battle with cancer in July 2009.

2012: Dereck Chisora lost his WBC heavyweigh­t title fight against Vitali Klitschko on a unanimous points decision in Munich. The fight was followed by a brawl between Chisora and David Haye in the press conference.

2017: Lincoln became the first non-League team to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals since 1914 with a 1-0 win at Burnley.
