I’m considering my position – Sheridan
Swindon manager says he has a ‘decision to make’ about his future at the Robins
JOHN Sheridan is seriously considering his future as boss of Swindon Town following a fourth defeat on the bounce in Sky Bet League One.
The relegation-threatened Robins were well beaten by Gillingham in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off to leave them 23rd in the table – level on points with Rochdale, in 22nd, and bottom side Wimbledon, and two points shy of safety.
Sheridan’s side rolled over as the play-off chasing Gills scored three goals in nine second-half minutes to put the game to bed.
Striker Brett Pitman had opened the scoring for Swindon on the stroke of half-time before the wheels well and truly fell off in the second period at the County Ground.
Vadaine Oliver bagged a brace to turn the tide for the Gills before Kyle Dempsey got the all important third.
The Wiltshire side visit Fleetwood next before potential make-or-break fixtures against fellow-strugglers Bristol Rovers and Rochdale.
Speaking after Saturday’s home reverse, under-fire Sheridan, right, said: “I’m going to take a good look at myself, and think about my own position. I’m not going to pretend things are alright because they’re not, they’re nowhere near alright.
“I’ve got a decision to make, and I’ll talk to the people above me because the club – more than anything – needs to stay in the division.
“I’m not going to blame anyone else other than myself.
“I’ve left young Jack Payne out when I should have played him. So I’ve picked the wrong team, I feel, after the other night’s performance, so I’ll take the full blame.”
