Special locations chosen for city’s film festival

-

A FILM festival is taking over a number of iconic Bristol locations for two weeks of special screenings.

Bristol Film Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary with events at Redcliffe Caves, Bristol Museum, Clifton Observatory, Arnos Vale Cemetery and even Aerospace, where people will be able to watch the comedy classic Airplane beneath the wings of Concorde.

The festival’s Underground Cinema series takes place beneath the streets of Redcliffe by the Floating Harbour.

Guests will enter the caves through a military-style tent on Redcliffe Wharf, and venture deep below the surface to enjoy cult and classic films in a special ‘screening chamber’ in the heart of the network of tunnels.

The programme in Redcliffe Caves sees a mixture of festival favourites, sci-fi and dark fantasy, including Dr Who and the Daleks, Donnie Darko, Quatermass and The Pit, the director’s cut of The Exorcist and 90th anniversary screenings of Frankenstein and Dracula.

The festival also includes screenings of horror films in Arnos Vale cemetery, including a Halloween screening of Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.

Jurassic Park will be screened at Bristol Museum and La La Land is one of the films people can watch at Clifton Observatory.

Festival director Owen Franklin said: “After an exceptionally challenging 18 months we’re thrilled to be welcoming audiences back, and what better venue than Redcliffe Caves.

“We’ve got a busy and varied programme this October across two weekends, but for me highlights will include the film version of the legendary British sci-fi chiller Quatermass and the Pit, a director’s cut of The Exorcist and the 90th anniversary screenings of Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff and Dracula starring Bela Lugosi. .”

Bristol Film Festival starts on October 1. Full timings and listings can be found on Bristol Film Festival’s website.
