Head coach tips more of his Gloucester squad for England calls

-

with consistent performances. They have missed out this time, and Gloucester will benefit going into the next four games.”

Skivington added: “I do have chats with Eddie but he didn’t call me this time. I knew who was in with a chance but this time he has not gone with Lewis - but he has come into training in a very positive mood, although of course he is disappointed. But if his form is good in the next two games he is on the edge of it and a door could open, although for now he has put it to one side and is focussed on Gloucester. Ruan Ackermann

is pushing hard and keeps getting better - he works very hard and a lot of the work he does on the field goes unseen.”

Skivington believes there are more Gloucester players who could be knocking on the door - if not now, then maybe a year or two down the line.

“I think there are a few lads who could get in there,” he said. “Looking a year or two down the line, who have a few Under-20 boys and I am very excited about their potential.

“I think our props, Harry (Elrington) and Val (Rapava-Ruskin) can both push for it, while Singo (Jack Singleton) is out of favour at the moment but he is still in with a chance.

“We have a good contingent with a lot of potential and all they need is a bit of luck and they can get in.”

But what of Morgan himself - he has scored four tries this season and could he add to his 31 caps?

“Eddie Jones is not looking at me not at present anyway - but I’ll never say never,” said the 32-year-old Dursley RFC product, who has 31 England caps to his name.

“The reality is that Eddie is looking at youngsters as they go towards the next World Cup and I am enjoying playing my rugby for Gloucester.”

Skivington’s view? - “I am not sure why Ben fell out of it but why not if he keeps performing and getting better?,” said the head coach. “He can do things that not everyone can - but plays in probably the most competitive position in the England side.”

Of the pair of 31-year-olds who are going to Jersey, May will be hoping to add to his 70 caps while the uncapped Atkinson will be hoping to get his chance to shine.

“England have decided on an attacking game and Mark is one of the 12s in contention,” said Skivington. “He is good with the ball in hand and is in with a chance - the next two games will allow people to try to get the shirt.”
