‘Playing well and not winning is not okay’

-

DARREN Sarll warned his Yeovil Town players that performing well and losing is “not okay” despite admitting he thought they were “excellent” in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at National League leaders Grimsby.

The Green & Whites competed well throughout the 90 minutes, but the table-topping Mariners came through comfortably enough.

Grimsby went in front midway through the first half thanks to a Lenell John-Lewis penalty after Will Bapaga was brought down in the penalty area by goalkeeper Grant Smith.

And the hosts sealed all three points in dying stages of the game as John McAtee made it two at the near post.

Over 6,000 fans were watching as the Mariners moved four points clear at the top, but defeat for Yeovil extended their winless run to six games and left them down in 15th in the table.

Glovers manager Sarll said: “I thought we were excellent, but the one thing I just said to the players is that I don’t want them to think that playing well and not winning is okay.

“I thought we were very good, I thought we were the better side in both halves, and I thought we worked the goal more.

“I thought that my players were wonderful, but playing well and not winning is not okay.”

■ Gloucester City’s miserable campaign took another hefty blow as fellow-strugglers Telford struck an equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage-time for a 2-2 draw after the home side had edged in front on 90 minutes.

The Tigers came from behind to lead with Matt McClure cancelling out Jason Oswell’s opener before Leon Chambers-Parillon looked to have secured the points.

However, there was still time for Kai Williams to crash home an even later leveller.

In contrast, Hereford claimed a 3-3 draw at Alfreton thanks to a last-minute equaliser of their own.

The Bulls came from behind on three separate occasions to earn their point.

Bailey Hobson, Rob Evans and Elliott Reeves each put the home side in front in Derbyshire, but Hereford hit back via a Miles Storey double and a last-gasp leveller from Luke Haines.

In the National League South, meanwhile, Chippenham ground out a goalless draw at Hampton & Richmond, but Bath City slipped to a 2-0 reverse at home to St Albans.

The Saints, who will host Forest Green Rovers in the first round of the FA Cup next month, beat the Romans thanks to two goals from Shaun Jeffers, who struck late in each half to take the points back to Hertfordshire.
