Two die and four injured after car hits tree

TWO people have died and four injured after the car they were all in crashed into a tree outside an army barracks “on the way to a Halloween party”, sources said.

Emergency services were scrambled to the single-vehicle crash in Perham Down, near Tidworth, Wiltshire, at around 10.15pm on Friday.

Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance was called to the fatal incident. A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which involved a Renault Clio.

Two other men, aged 19 and 27, were taken to the regional major trauma centre at Southmead Hospital in Bristol with life-threatenin­g injuries. One was taken there via air ambulance.

A 29-year-old man suffered serious injuries, and the other occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.

Fire crews from Dorset and Wiltshire and Rescue Service and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident.

A spokespers­on for Wiltshire Police said: “At approximat­ely 10pm we responded to the road traffic collision involving a Renault Clio which had struck a tree after leaving the road.

“We regret to report that a 19-year-old man and an 18-yearold woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed. Two other men who were in the vehicle, aged 27 and 19, have both been taken to hospital with life-threatenin­g injuries, while a 29-year-old man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries and a 20-year-old man has also gone to hospital with minor injuries.”
