Tigers and Bulls are left to prop up the rest

-

GLOUCESTER City and Hereford FC occupy the bottom two places in the National League North after both were beaten away from home on Saturday afternoon.

Lee Mansell’s City have just six points from 12 matches thus far to lie bottom of the table, while the Bulls are just one point better off, albeit from only ten games, which gives them a fixture in hand on some of the five teams directly above them on nine points.

Mansell, pictured, saw his team battle hard at second-placed Brackley, but they ultimately went down 1-0 to Lee Ndlovu’s 29thminute goal.

Ben Nugent thought he had equalised for City, but the goal was ruled out for handball and Nugent picked up a second yellow card and was dismissed.

Hereford, meanwhile, were sunk 2-0 at Boston, although again the points were on the line until late in the match.

Jordan Burrow gave Boston a 17th-minute lead, but they did not secure their victory until Shane Byrne’s last-minute penalty.

In the National League South, meanwhile, Chippenham were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Braintree, who levelled in the final minute through Myles Anderson. Kieran Parselle struck for Town.

Bath City’s game at Ebbsfleet was postponed due to Covid.

■ YEOVIL boss Darren Sarll hailed a “strong point” as the Glovers and Solihull played out a 0-0 draw that saw each side reduced to ten men.

Just after the hour mark, Solihull’s former Cheltenham defender Jordan Cranston was shown a straight red card following a coming together with Tom Knowles.

But seven minutes later, Max Hunt was dismissed for the visitors after a late tackle on Andrew Dallas.

The point leaves Solihull fifth in the division, four points behind leaders’ Boreham Wood, with the Glovers down in 15th.

Sarll said: “I was very pleased with our attacking play in the first half, and I was very pleased with our defensive play in the second half. I thought it was a really good point, a strong point.

“It may have been nil-nil, but I was really pleased. I don’t think Grant (Smith, goalkeeper) has had to make a save.”

Yeovil are next in action at Yate in the FA Cup on Saturday.
