Is someone nursing a grievance?

-

LAST night saw the start of this new 1970s crime drama, adapted from the bestselling PD James novels.

In part one, enigmatic Detective Chief Inspector Adam Dalgliesh (played by Doctor Foster star Bertie Carvel) was called to a nursing school, Nightingale House. A student, Nurse Pearce, had just died there during a training exercise that went horribly wrong – she was being tube-fed as part of the demonstration, but the tube was actually poisoned and the nurse was killed.

Dalgliesh sifted through various leads to find an explanation, from a missing bottle of disinfectant to accusations of blackmail, but before he could solve the case, another nurse, Fallon, died after drinking her bedtime cup of tea.

In tonight’s second instalment, Dalgliesh continues his investigation, as the nurses speculate about whether Fallon killed herself, or if she was the victim of a serial killer, picking the nurses off one by one perhaps.

Dalgliesh is under pressure now that there are two dead bodies to explain, but the case only becomes more complicated.

A library book found in Fallon’s room, and a letter in Pearce’s pigeon hole could hold vital clues, as they lead Dalgliesh back to a recent patient.

With the help of pathologist Dr Chopra, Dalgliesh starts to make progress, but perhaps he is getting too close to the truth as he is attacked in the woods.

Can Dalgliesh make it out of this case in one piece – and will he get to the killer before there are any more victims?
