Larkhall go through on penalties

-

LARKHALL Athletic were the only side from the region to progress to round two of the FA Trophy as they won 6-5 on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Marlow.

Matt Britton gave the Larks a tenth-minute lead, but Nnamdi Nwachuku had turned things around for the home side by the mid-point of the first half.

However, Joe Hillard bagged a last-gasp leveller for the visitors, who then held their nerve to win the subsequent shoot-out.

Frome also took their tie to penalties, but went down 4-2 after a 2-2 draw at AFC Totton.

The Robins ended the game with nine men after goalkeeper James Carey and defender Marcus Mapstone were both sent off, with manager Danny Greaves dusting off the gloves to take over in goal.

Mapstone headed Frome into the lead when they were down to ten, although Totton turned the game around and also had a twoman advantage for the final 20 minutes.

However, Jon Davies equalised for the visitors, only for his side to lose the shoot-out.

Elsewhere, Cinderford lost 3-0 at Binfield, Salisbury were beaten 4-0 at Plymouth Parkway, and Weston-super-Mare slipped up 2-1 at home to Wimborne.

There was a limited programme of action in the Southern League, and there was limited goalmouth action at Yate as the hosts drew 0-0 with Taunton.

Swindon Supermarine were involved in a game with more goals, but most of them were scored against them as home side Beaconsfield won 5-1. Kieran Phillips scored for Supermarine.

In Division One South, thirdplaced Cirencester won a thriller 4-3 at home to Paulton.

The visitors led 3-1 at the break thanks to Ed Butcher and Leighton Thomas (2), but then Josh GraceParsons, who had scored the home side’s first, doubled his tally, before Jake Lee and Levi Irving completed the turnaround by the hour mark.

Elsewhere, Mangotsfield took a morale-boosting 3-1 victory over fellow-strugglers Bideford.

Kye Simpson netted a goal in each half and Daniel McBeam added a third prior to a last-gasp consolation from Lewis Wilson.

Melksham, meanwhile, were 3-2 home winners over Lymington, although they were made to sweat at the end.

Sam Hendy and Luke Ballinger gave the hosts a two-goal lead at the break, and Jake Mawford then made it three.

Craig McAllister and Freddie Bull both scored in the final seven minutes, but Melksham had just done enough.

Bristol Manor Farm conceded three goals in the final six minutes at Winchester to lose 5-1, Josh Ford scoring for the visitors, while high-flying Sholing needed two stoppage-time goals to beat bottom side Barnstaple 3-0.
