HOODeD youths fled police after setting off “a whole box of fireworks” in a Gloucester street where residents are plagued by anti-social behaviour.

Now, police are moving to ease rising anger in Tredworth at the antics of a gang that fired fireworks at houses.

A resident of Hatherley Road said that “a whole box of fireworks” was let off in the street on Bonfire Night.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed her anger and dismay to our sister website Gloucestershire Live about the incident. “When approached I was told to remove myself and mind my own business and that fireworks are legal. I tried to get photos of the people involved but they pulled their hoods up – I am tired of this disrespectful behaviour,” she said.

Two days earlier a local resident posted on the Spotted Tredworth that fireworks were being set off in Ducie Street aimed at houses.

Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that on November 5 officers responded to reports of antisocial behaviour in the Tredworth area, including a group setting off fireworks in the street.

When officers arrived some fled, although one male was spoken to and given words of advice.

In another incident reported later that evening, officers were called to a group of 10-15 youths setting off fireworks in the street. Again, the gang ran off but some were spotted and questioned nearby.

On November 9, officers responded to reports of youths in the area of Hatherley Road setting off fireworks in the street but none of them was found during an area search.

Inspector Ash Shingler, of Gloucester Neighbourhood Policing

Team, said “a lot of work” had been done in Tredworth to try to tackle anti-social behaviour.

“We’re working with several integral members of the community to make the area a safer place for everyone and there are now several projects where the community and police are working together.

“Alongside this, we’ve also carried out a number of enforcement activities to target reducing anti-social behaviour in the area,” he said.
