Glovers fight back while Bluebirds seal play-off berth
YEOVIL fought back fron 2-0 down to draw with Boreham Wood - and end the Hertfordshire side’s National League play-off hopes.
After Tyrone Marsh and Dennon Lewis struck in the first half, the Glovers responded through Morgan Williams and Luke Wilkinson, below, to leave Wood six points off seventh-placed Chesterfield with two games remaining and an inferior goal difference.
Marsh fired Wood in front in the 11th minute with a closerange finish from Jacob Mendy’s cross.
Yeovil had a chance to level six minutes later, but Nathan Ashmore saved Dale Gorman’s penalty after a foul from David Stephens.
Lewis punished the hosts after 27 minutes, winning the ball back 40 yards from goal before taking on a defender and slotting past the goalkeeper.
But Yeovil fought back strongly as Williams poked home from Tom Knowles’ long throw on the hour mark, before Wilkinson fired in a free-kick shortly after.
In National League South, two goals from Chippenham Town’s Jordan Young ensured victory over Havant & Waterlooville and sealed a seventh-place finish and and a playoffs berth.
The Bluebirds will now head to Kent on Thursday May 12 to take on Dartford in the play-off eliminator.
Dartford finished fourth in the table and enjoyed a 7-2 win at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
Elsewhere in National League South, Bath City played out a 3-3 draw with play-off hopefuls Oxford City. The Romans finish the season in 18th place, nine points clear of relagated Billericay Town.
In National League North Hereford lost 2-1 at Gateshead while Gloucester City drew 2-2 at home with Blyth Spartans.
The two West clubs had little to play for, with neither side in the play-off reckoning or facing the threat of relegation. The Bulls ended the day in 12th place in the table while the Tigers were 17th.
