AMAN in his 80s has been subject to a violent and unprovoked attack by three thieves trying to steal his motorhome.

The assault happened in the early hours of last Thursday and the man was left needing hospital treatment as a result.

It is reported that the man and his wife were sleeping in the motorhome on Kingland Road in Poole at the time of the attack.

At around 2.30am they were woken by sounds from outside the vehicle as a black car pulled up alongside them.

Three men are said to have come out of the car, which was possibly a Volkswagen Golf, and attempted to steal or cause damage to the motorhome.

As the elderly man went out of the home to confront them, he was attacked.

The man was assaulted and suffered cuts to his arm, hand, bruising and swelling, all of which required hospital treatment and some stitches.

The three men are also said to have smashed the windows of the motorhome, before getting back into their car and heading off in the direction of the Dolphin Shopping Centre.

Dorset Police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has any information about it, to come forward.

Pc Jonathan Pryer said: “This was a violent and unprovoked attack that has understandably caused considerable distress to the elderly couple who were targeted, as well as injuries to the male victim and damage to their property. I am appealing to anyone who was in the vicinity and witnessed any suspicious activity, or who has any information that might assist our ongoing enquiries, to please contact Dorset Police.

He added: “I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area around the time of the incident to please check any dashcam footage for anything of relevance.”
