West pastry chefs eyeing up Bake Off: The Professionals crown

-

TWO Gloucestershire baking whizzes have taken a break from their kitchen to compete in Bake Off: The Professionals.

Boglarka and Krisztian, pictured far right, who both originally hail from Hungary, head up the hot and pastry kitchens at the newly opened Jo Szerencset restaurant in Lechlade.

The name means ‘good luck’ in Hungarian, and the couple certainly hope they will have a lot of that as they compete to be crowned this year’s winners of the professional iteration of the hugely popular baking show.

When they are not busy in the kitchen, the pair are kept on their toes with their two young children – both said to be equally keen mini bakers themselves.

Boglarka and Krisztian will go up against some of the best patisserie teams in the country in the Channel 4 competition, including bakers from London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cumbria and Wiltshire.

They will need to impress judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden, both world-class patissier experts, if they are to stand a chance of lifting the trophy at the end.

Presenters Liam Charles and Stacey Solomon will be introducing the first episode on Channel 4 on Tuesday when the judges have a surprise up their sleeves for the teams with a secret challenge.

Without any recipes to hand, they must rely on their patisserie instincts, innate knowledge, and above all their teamwork to create 36 individual strawberry fraisiers and a chocolate amenity in just three hours.

In the second challenge, the teams must transform an ordinary dessert into an incredible fine dining experience with their showpiece. For this heat, it’s a classic treacle tart complete with towering edible showpiece sculptures that are stunning beyond belief.
