Patience with the PM really is at an end

-

THE question asked in the Letters page was: “If ‘Partygate’ is over, should there be a General Election?”

I am really beginning to think so. It’s not the fault of ordinary backbenchers that Boris Johnson has allowed the great office of Prime Minister to be dragged through the mud, but they have done, in the main, nothing to remove him, even though over a long period of time they have had appalling examples of his actions. Their lack of courage is there for all of us to see.

Regular readers of the Letters page will know that I have been calling for his removal from office long before he became Prime Minister. Tory grandees were predicting that he would rise far in their party at least 20 years ago, showing how unqualified they are for government.

I wasn’t going to write in about the latest events at Number 10, thinking that a younger generation would do so, but to sit here this morning and hear on the radio that he has altered the Ministerial Code to try to avoid his removal from office has prompted me into action.

He and his sycophantic supporters are always trying to portray him as the heir to Sir Winston Churchill; but he’s not fit to lace Churchill’s boots. I would compare him to another figure from history, Emperor Nero.

Johnson’s actions mirror Nero’s exactly, even to the excessive parties with his chosen people, drinking and partying until they actually vomited all over the walls and floors of 10 Downing Street, of all places, and left their mess for the poor old cleaners to deal with whilst the rest of the country was in lockdown.

People had to die on their own, families couldn’t even give them a proper funeral; children missed out on their education; good honest people were driven out of business by the lockdowns and the NHS was overrun. Enough really is enough!

Will the Tory MPs find the courage to remove him, and who will they replace him with? If they have any sense, it won’t be any of their tainted front bench. The Tories have been in office for too long – it’s time for them to go.
