to resign. He makes reference to the importance of maintaining high standards, but significantly does not list the vital Nolan Principles, which include honesty, integrity, transparency and accountability in public life.
In 1994, two MPs in John Major’s Conservative Government were caught taking bribes for asking questions in the House. In response to the “cash for questions” scandal, John Major set up a committee, chaired by Lord Nolan, which produced a set of standards of behaviour expected of those in public life. The Nolan Principles are respected as a cornerstone of our democracy and have held firm for nearly 30 years.
The Conservative Party has a reputation for being ruthless in removing leaders who they no longer consider to be an asset.
Boris Johnson has a reputation for assuming that nothing he does has consequences and, in spite of mounting evidence to the contrary, he denies he has done anything wrong or broken any rules.
He has made it clear that he has no intention of resigning or being forced out of Number 10. He is getting desperate and will use any means at his disposal to stay in office. Those who wish to remove him are in for a tough fight.

Devon not to sign letters calling for more stringent checks on election candidates.
The number of quality MPs is at an all-time low. Whether it is snouts in troughs, sexual misdemeanours or furnishing friends with huge contracts for PPE and suchlike, there has never been a time when constituency offices are more needed to take responsibility for candidates offered up to us for our approval.
We want constituency offices to screen and research for people with proven backgrounds of competence. Military, teachers, law officers, community leaders, in fact anyone who has worked outside the Parliamentary bubble with a degree of success.
The list of nobodies who are lining up in the ‘Get rid of Boris at any cost’ camp could not even start to do his job. David Davis is on that list, and what a mess he made of his responsibility for getting Brexit done. Voters in the next general election should be careful what they wish for. Norah Western
Devon have legs too short for their bodies, causing painful spine and hip ailments, and they are prone to other serious health problems.
Purchasing them supports breeders who churn out litter after litter for profit. Animals bought on a whim often end up abandoned once the novelty wears off and the vet bills add up. Anyone looking to expand their family – and who has the time, love, and resources to offer a dog a home for life – should visit their local shelter and give the royal treatment to one of the many dogs of all breeds, shapes, and sizes longing for a permanent home.
