and put ourselves in a position to win some trophies. But I’m also fully aware of how much work there is to do and how much we’ve got to improve as a unit to do that. It’s easy to talk it, but it’s very difficult to actually deliver that.”

■ British and Irish Lions star Chris Harris has put pen to paper on a new extended contract at Gloucester Rugby.

Harris, 31, has flourished since joining the Cherry and Whites from Newcastle Falcons in the 2019, rapidly establishing himself as a key member of the squad.

The 36-cap Scottish international is widely regarded as one of the best centres in the world, particularly in defence.

Last summer Harris was named in the British and Irish Lions squad to tour South Africa and started at 13 in the second Test in Cape Town, losing 27-9 to the Springboks.

Gloucester head coach George Skivington said: “Whether it is in attack or defence, he always leads by example and is a real sprinkle of world-class talent.”

■ Gloucester Rugby have confirmed the Cherry and Whites will part company with full-back Jason Woodward, second row Will Britton and prop Jack Stanley at the end of the season.

Woodward joined Gloucester from Bristol in 2017 and went on to play 67 times in Cherry and White scoring 90 points. But the 32-year-old Kiwi made just four Premiership appearances for the club this season, all in October.

Stanley linked up with Gloucester in March 2020 from Edinburgh Rugby and has made 16 appearances but none this season.

Britton, 25, arrived from Championship side Doncaster Knights in 2021 but a long-term injury picked up in a pre-season friendly limited his opportunities and he has not made a competitive appearance.

Yesterday, Cornish Pirates said the lock had signed a one-year deal with the club.

Chief operating officer, Alex Brown said: “We wish them the very best for the future.”
