Di Michele takes on role at Swindon

-

SWINDON Town have appointed Sandro di Michele as technical director at the County Ground.

Di Michele joins the League Two club after Ben Chorley left his role as director of football last month. He was most recently head recruitment analyst at Wigan.

His role at Swindon will see him oversee all the club’s football operations.

“Sandro has a very successful track record in data driven recruitment at a number of clubs,” said Swindon chief executive Rob Angus. “His philosophy and understanding of the game is completely aligned with the culture of Swindon Town, and he will play an integral role in bringing success to the club.”

Meanwhile, the future of head coach Ben Garner remains up in the air. The 42-year-old has been linked with a switch to Charlton, but both the Addicks and Swindon have remained tight-lipped in recent days. However, it has been reported Garner has agreed a two-year deal and the delay in making it all official stems from contractual issues surrounding him and his backroom staff and the fact the ex-Bristol Rovers boss was on holiday.

■ Mansfield have signed former Cheltenham goalkeeper Scott Flinders on a one-year contract.

The 35-year-old, who joined the Robins in 2017, played 23 times during the 2021-22 season.

Stags manager Nigel Clough said: “He’s been a very good goalkeeper over the years and has come here to compete for the first-choice goalkeeping spot.”

Nathan Bishop was Mansfield’s number one during the past season, on loan from Manchester United, as the Stags reached the League Two play-offs final before losing to Port Vale.

■ Yeovil Town goalkeeper Max Evans has extended his contract until the summer of 2023.

The 20-year-old made his National League debut against Altrincham last month – keeping a clean sheet – and has also played in the FA Trophy and the Somerset Premier Cup.
