It appears that we’re spending £4.7 million per day on housing homeless migrants in hotels. If this is true, I cannot help but think about our long-term homeless, or those stuck in local authority B&B units. Or the thousands who are trafficked and don’t appear in official figures.
The ONS reports that, in 2013, our population increased by 400,600; 212,100 or 53% of this increase was due to natural change or the difference between births and deaths; while 183,400 or 46% of the increase was due to net international migration, which is the difference between international immigration and international emigration during the year.
Presently, the UK’s population is approximately 68.5 million. By 2050, it is estimated to be 75 million. We have serious issues with housing, energy, transport, education, healthcare, etc. Having a sensible and practical immigration policy is essential as we move into the future, and we need to have a brutally honest debate about what works for us as a nation.
Politicians need to stop the adversarial brinkmanship and present a plan.

It would seem sensible to set up a visa booth in France and pay fares for those who are acceptable, rather than bear greater costs of sending them to Rwanda against their will.
