Players have confidence back – Mark

- Writes Keith Watson.

MARK Cooper says his Yeovil Town players appear to have regained their confidence as they close in on the National League South title and promotion back to the fifth tier,

Good Friday’s 3-0 home victory over Torquay means the Glovers need just six more points from their final five games, although it could be mission accomplished by this evening if Cooper’s men win at old rivals Weymouth and Chelmsford lose at Dover, who, admittedly, are bottom.

Following the triumph over Torquay, Cooper, pictured, said: “It is not easy to get over the line, and we have said all season ‘Just deal what is in front of us’.

“We looked like we have got our confidence back, we had some good intricate passing and I thought we were really good.

“We have taken the best two full-backs out of the team, two of the best forwards out, and we have had to find a different way, and now we look like we have our confidence back and we are marching on.”

Elsewhere in the National League South this afternoon, Bath head to Taunton for a Somerset derby with both teams very much in need of points.

The Romans are three points outside the play-off positions having drawn their last two, while Taunton are in the drop zone after four successive defeats.

Chippenham, whose four wins in a row have given them the merest sniff of a play-off place, host Truro, while Weston travel to Torquay for their match.

In the National League North, Gloucester City’s relegation could be confirmed if they lose away to Peterborough Sports today and both Farsley and Darlington can take victory at Spennymoor and Warrington respectively.

Second-from-bottom City have produced some battling displays in recent weeks – including when drawing 1-1 with fourth-placed Brackley on Good Friday – but are just about in miracle territory in terms of survival now.

Hereford had their Good Friday clash at Banbury postponed, so they will at least be fresh for this afternoon’s home game with Buxton. The Bulls have dropped five points and five places away from the play-off places, although they do have a game in hand on several of their rivals.
