MP ‘relieved’ as rape case dropped
AN MP accused of rape said he is “relieved” that the case against him has been dropped.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said no further action should be taken against Simon Danczuk, who faced rape allegations dating back to 2006.
Mr Danczuk had already been suspended from the Labour Party over claims he sent sexually explicit texts to a 17-year-old girl when the allegations emerged in January.
A Labour Party spokeswoman said the Rochdale MP remains suspended from the party.
In a statement, Mr Danczuk said: “I am grateful for the decision made by the CPS and I am relieved.
“Even though I maintained my innocence throughout, this has been immensely stressful.”
