ATRIO of high-profile speakers, have been lined up to address Cardiff Breakfast Club in the lead-up to Christmas.

They include the managing director of Cardiff Airport Debra Barber, Welsh Government Cabinet member Mark Drakeford, and Cardiff council leader Phil Bale.

Mr Drakeford, the Secretary for Finance and Local Government, will address the club at the Swalec Stadium on October 14.

He will explore Wales’ future funding arrangements with the UK Government, as well as the impact of Brexit on EU structural fundng for Wales.

He will also look at the future of local government in Wales, based on a new shared collaborative approach, and the evolution of the Swansea Bay and Cardiff Capital city regions.

He will be followed in November by Mr Bale, whose address will update the club’s business audience on the agreed-in-principle £1.2bn City Deal involving the 10 local authorities that make up the Cardiff Capital City Region and the UK and Welsh governments.

Mr Bale will address the club on November 11.

The final meeting before Christmas will see Ms Barber, managing director of Cardiff Airport, addressing the club on December 9.

Over the past year the airport has seen impressive passenger growth to 1.3 million.

And the club also has a new sponsor in Cardiff-based Effective Communication – joining existing sponsors Blake Morgan, the Western Mail and Lloyds Banking Group.

Moreover, the last meeting of the club, which was addressed by the Earl of Wessex, raised £765 for the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme.

That occasion, at the St David’s Hotel & Spa last week, marked the last for marketing agency Petersens PR as the club’s event managers – a role it had held for 12 years before standing down.

Rob Petersen, managing director of Petersens PR, said: “It’s been a joy to work closely with the sponsors of the Cardiff Breakfast Club over the past 12 years, and to have helped the club evolve and grow into the fantastic event it is today.

Organising this special event has been exciting for the team. DofE do extremely important work so it was a pleasure to have this be our last event for the club.”

Chris Williams, a partner with Blake Morgan who also chairs Cardiff Breakfast Club, said: “We were delighted to have the opportunity to hold this special event and to have raised £765 in support of DofE.

“It’s been incredibly rewarding to work with Petersens PR throughout their 12-year involvement with the Club and their final event for us was a fantastic success.”
