Could the Liberty be set for an American revolution?

-

Let’s start with the most obvious. It would surprise nobody to see Bradley offer his son a Premier League return, after the USA captain’s loan stint with Aston Villa in 2011.

Despite his underwhelming time in the west Midlands, he has enjoyed successful spells with Serie A sides Chievo and Roma and could add much-needed midfield backup for the Swans.

He currently plies his trade with Toronto FC in the Major League Soccer and captained the side to the Canadian Championship last season. January. Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez have failed to convince as a partnership and the jury is out on Mike van der Hoorn and Alfie Mawson.

Brooks, 23, is a promising central defender with great physical attributes, who first announced himself on the global stage by scoring for USA against Ghana during the group stages of the 2014 World Cup.

Despite being born and raised in Berlin, Brooks has American parents and has been involved with the US national set up since 2010 - when Bradley was in charge of the senior side.

After some impressive displays for Hertha Berlin in the past couple of seasons, he could be a good fit for Swansea. The legend of 157 USA caps lists ‘Swansea City AFC’ in his Twitter bio and by all accounts is currently working for the Swans in an ‘advisory role’. He was an integral part of Bradley’s US side and after reprising his playing career with LA Galaxy in recent months, the former Everton striker may be tempted to the Liberty on a full-time basis.

Whether that would be as a player, or coach, or both, remains to be seen. But a degree of Donovan involvement in the Bradley-LevienKaplan revolution looks very likely. At 34, Jones is no spring chicken, but the midfielder is proven in European football, with 129 first team appearances for Schalke under his belt. After initially playing for Germany, he was persuaded to switch allegiance to the USA by Bradley in 2010.

Jones had a loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League in 2011, making 15 starts while Steve Kean was in charge at Ewood Park. Hear us out on this one. Normally a record of one goal in 42 Premier League appearances for a striker would spell the end of a player’s career in the English top flight.

Altidore had a torrid time at Sunderland and didn’t fare much better at Hull City before that. However, his goal record for AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie and for Michael Bradley’s Toronto FC speaks for itself. An outside bet to team up with his former national team boss at Swansea City, but Altidore certainly has unfinished business in the Premier League.
