Sanchez keeps his cool to get Gunners out of a tight spot

-

ROUND-UP ALEXIS Sanchez kept his cool to dink home a last-gasp penalty as 10-man Arsenal beat Burnley to move up to second in the Premier League.

The Clarets looked like taking just their second point on the road this season when Andre Gray powered home a stoppage-time spot-kick to cancel out Shkodran Mustafi’s first Arsenal goal.

But, in the last of the seven additional minutes, referee Jon Moss who had already dismissed Granit Xhaka and sent Arsene Wenger to the stands - pointed to the spot once more and Sanchez made no mistake in sealing a remarkable 2-1 win.

Arsenal are now eight points behind Chelsea after the leaders easily saw off Hull 2-0 with goals from Diego Costa and Gary Cahill.

Meanwhile, champions Leicester were beaten again, this time falling 3-0 to Southampton, with James Ward-Prowse, Jay Rodriguez and Dusan Tadic (penalty) on target.

On Saturday, Wayne Rooney surpassed Sir Bobby Charlton to become Manchester United’s record goalscorer with a dramatic injurytime free-kick which salvaged his side a 1-1 draw at Stoke.

Charlton was on hand to watch Rooney reach his milestone as he curled his 250th United goal into the top corner of the net after Joe Allen was penalised for a foul on Marcus Rashford.

Rooney’s effort extended his side’s unbeaten run to 17 games after Stoke looked set to take all three points through an own goal from Juan Mata in the 19th minute.

But there was more woe for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, who saw his side surrender a twogoal lead to draw 2-2 against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.

Blunders by Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris gifted dominant City a twogoal lead through Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne before Dele Alli pulled one back for the visitors.

After Raheem Sterling was denied what seemed an obvious penalty, substitute Son Heung-min grabbed a point for Spurs in the 77th minute.

Sunderland, who slumped back to the bottom after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Darren Fletcher’s 20th-minute opener and a powerful left-foot drive from Chris Brunt nine minutes before the break were enough to sink the miserable Black Cats.

Seamus Coleman’s strike earned Everton a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace, while Andy Carroll scored twice in West Ham’s 3-1 win over Middlesbrough.

Bournemouth twice hit back from behind to grab a 2-2 draw against Watford at the Vitality Stadium, with Benik Afobe grabbing the equaliser.
