Pembroke turn up the heat as they beat icy conditions

-

ON a weekend wrecked by the frosty weather, Pembroke turned up the heat as they produced a scintillating Three West A performance to sweep St Davids aside and run in 13 tries in a 75-0 hammering.

Tom Kinnear and Will Edwards both bagged trebles with Simon Stanford going over twice. Lloyd Davies, Jim Brace, Matthew Lewis, Barry John and Kyle Weatherall also got on the scoresheet with Luke Hartland booting five conversions to seal the rout.

But it was only enough to keep them fourth with St Clears still leading the way courtesy of their 17-5 win over Tregaron. James Davies, Dafydd Page and Llyr Ebsworth all crashed over for the leaders with Geraint Jones booting a conversion.

But Pembroke’s win wasn’t the biggest of the weekend with Llanrumney, who are third from bottom in Three East Central C, crushing Tongwynlais 78-0. Daniel Ware, Ian Facey, Leigh O’Donoghue and Craig Smith all bagged braces with Callum Bruno, Dale Smith, Kurt Jennings and Ryan Davenport also on the scoresheet as Llanrumney romped to victory.

They may have only scored three tries, but it was still a memorable weekend for Nant Conwy in One North as the leaders beat Pwllheli 28-15 in a top-of-the-table clash. Jack Moriarty crashed over twice with Carwyn Ellis adding a third. Delwyn Jones kicked the rest of the points for Nant Conwy.

Pwllheli replied with 10 points from Osian Jones and a Dafydd Anwyl try, but it wasn’t enough to stop Nant Conwy from extending their lead to seven points.

Only two games survived the freeze in the National Championship with Beddau coasting to a 34-11 win over Glamorgan Wanderers.

Jordan Goodwin bagged a brace with further tries from Dai Francis, Jack Dando and Matthew Howells. Hywel Chatham kicked the rest of the points. Wanderers replied with two Luke Fish penalties and a Jack Conway try.

In the other game, Cardiff Metropolitan climbed the table thanks to a 30-22 victory against Newbridge. George Simpson booted 15 points for the Cardiff Met with Luke Northmore, twice, and Tom Benjamin adding tries.

Kyle Scrivens, Jamie Edwards and Jordan Howells all touched down for Newbridge with Richard Powell kicking eight points, but it wasn’t enough to salvage any points.

Treorchy were in fine form as they ran in five tries to extend their lead at the top of One East Central with a 37-3 victory over Cardiff Quins. Rob Jones, Pete Hutchings, Owen Williams and Will Griffiths all crossed the whitewash to add to a penalty try. Jordan Lloyd kicked the rest of the points for Treorchy.

Rhydyfelin kept their place at the top of One East with a 36-10 win against Brecon. Tries from Lewis Smith, Mark Tyler, Forest Quirke and Ross Lucas cemented their place as leaders, with Scott Pritchard crashing over twice. David Gratton was on hand to boot three conversions.

One West leaders Kidwelly suffered their second league defeat as they fell 22-20 at Crymych. A penalty try and a Sion Pearce touch down, coupled with 10 points from Gareth Rees, weren’t enough to prevent the loss, but Kidwelly still kept their place at the top.

Rhys Davies was in sparkling form for Crymych as he kicked 16 points with Dion Gibby completing the scoring with a try.

Bonymaen, One West Central leaders, saw their lead at the top cut to just one point after their game at Maesteg Quins was called off.

Aberavon Quins took advantage to beat Cwmllynfell 36-25 and move above Trebanos, who also didn’t play, into second. Craig Cox was at the double for the Quins with Marcus David, Foard Cooksley and Marc Sheppard all going over. Sheppard kicked the rest of Quins’ points.

Basement boys Cwmllynfell pushed the Quins all the way. Bodie Davies went over twice with Evan Ellis also bagging a try. Troy Cusack added eight points and Evan Ellis kicked a conversion, but it wasn’t enough to secure any points.
