New South Wales chairman appointed

-

THE Association of Women in Property (WiP) has announced its new South Wales chairman for 2017/18. Nicola Jones, project manager at Gleeds, takes on the role from March 1, for one year.

Ms Jones is a project manager based in Gleeds, Cardiff. Working across the health, heritage, education and manufacturing sectors, Nicola has been a member of WiP for four years and believes the group is integral in helping to promote diversity and address the industry-wide skills shortage.

She said: “2017 is a milestone year for WiP, as it marks 30 years since the organisation was formed, originally as a networking group for women working in the property and construction sector. Since then, we have held more than 8,000 events across the UK, promoting diversity and professional development, at every level.

“Hence, in the last 10 years, more than 600 members have undertaken our mentoring programme and over 700 undergraduates have participated in WiP’s National Student Awards, part of our education programme to encourage girls and young women to pursue a career in the industry. We run mid-career workshops and a boardroom series for those aspiring to top roles – WiP is very much about realising one’s potential and helping others to do the same.”

Simon Williams, director for Gleeds in Cardiff said: “It’s fantastic to see Nicola announced as the South Wales chairman for WiP. Having worked with Gleeds for six years on high-profile projects such as the new Childrens Hospital for Wales and Hafan y Coed, I believe Nicola is well placed to drive WiP forward over the coming 12 months and wish her the very best of luck.”

In the South Wales area, recent WiP events include WiP Wednesday sponsored by Darwin Gray, Mums in Property lunch, Concrete Society lunch, LinkedIn and Social Media CPD, the majority of which are open to members and nonmembers, both men and women.
