Governor is honoured for lifetime work
A Welsh college governor who “brings out the best in people” has won a national award.
Bridgend College governor Dr John Graystone was been named winner of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the TES FE Awards 2017 in London. The award recognises those whose contribution to further education goes above and beyond their own academic interests. Judges said they chose Dr Graystone for his contribution to the UK FE sector over 46 years in education.
Starting his career as a teacher in Nottingham in 1970, he has worked in a variety of positions both as an employee and as a volunteer.
Dr Graystone currently serves as executive chair of Agored Cymru and was interim director of NIACE Cymru. He also serves on the boards of Bridgend College and The College Merthyr Tydfil (a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales), and is chair of the WEA YMCA CC Cymru. He also represents ColegauCymru on the educational board of the Welsh Journal of Education and on the AOC Beacon Award Steering Committee.
A Bridgend College spokeswoman said: “A very well-respected academic, John has worked in the school, FE and HE sector. He has published over 100 articles in a wide variety of national and international journals.
“Of all John’s achievements, his greatest is his ability to bring out the best in people around him.
“We are thrilled that he has been recognised with the TES Lifetime Achievement Award.”
