Brexit could see end of UK, EU and Nato
FOR Theresa May to lecture Nicola Sturgeon about the advantages of unity and the disadvantages of leaving the UK is a bit rich since similar arguments apply to the UK leaving the EU.
Furthermore, the unexpected decline in the power of the Unionists in Northern Ireland combined with Brexit could tip the balance in favour of a united Ireland.
Because of David Cameron’s decision to put party and personal interest before the national interest, we could end up with a united Ireland, an independent Scotland and, God forbid, the United Kingdom of England and Wales. Is Brexit about to bring the curtain down on more than 300 years of political, economic, scientific and engineering achievements?
Similarly, Brexit and the rise of nationalist parties across Europe could either lead to the end of the EU or it could accelerate greater integration, the creation of a European army and the end of Nato.
We could no longer rely on the US and Commonwealth nations to ride to the rescue of a fragmented UK as they did in two world wars. Our relationships with the US and the Commonwealth have changed in 70 years and Britannia no longer rules the waves.
My fear is that Brexit could mean the end of the UK, the EU and Nato.
