My mateWarnock’s one of the best – McCarthy

-

MICK McCarthy is under no illusions about the size of task facing his Ipswich Town troops this weekend against Cardiff City.

The Tractor Boys’ boss – who is celebrating 25 years in management – knows the Bluebirds’ manager better than most.

And he agrees that Neil Warnock would get another job in a heartbeat if he left the Bluebirds.

Warnock recently put pen to paper on a 12-month extension of his Cardiff contract, with the aim of achieving promotion next season.

But that hasn’t stopped the veteran Yorkshireman insisting he’s ‘not bothered about getting the sack’, knowing other clubs would be keen to acquire his vast experience if he departed South Wales.

Warnock tomorrow takes his Bluebirds troops into a clash with fellow mid-table outfit Ipswich.

McCarthy, whose Ipswich side have drawn their past six games, said: “I heard him (Warnock) comment saying he’s not bothered about getting the sack today because he’ll get another job because he’s a good manager — and he is!

“He keeps proving that and I get on great with him.

“Whatever other people think about him, he’s a mate of mine, and he just keeps churning it out.

“He’s retired a couple of times and come back. He’s done great with Cardiff, they were in trouble when he went there and they’re safe now.”

A win on Saturday would take the Bluebirds to 51 points — securing the safety that Warnock had guaranteed when he took over in October.
