Actress in blast at ‘sexist’ questions
ACTRESS Vicky McClure criticised an interviewer who asked her whether or not she wanted children – claiming she was only asked about starting a family because she was female.
The Bafta award-winning star, who recently sent chills down the spine of the nation as Paula in The Replacement, spoke to the most recent issue of magazine Grazia.
Line of Duty star McClure – whose partner is Merthyr Tydfil actor Jonny Owen – said that being constantly asked if she wanted children wouldn’t happen if she was a man.
She told the magazine: “If this was a bloke that would never happen. It’s none of your bloody business.
“You know, whether women choose to work when they have children, whether they choose not to, whether they do a bit of both, it’s nobody’s business.”
In The Replacement McClure’s character Paula provided maternity cover for Morven Christie’s Ellen.
The climax of the threeparter saw the Nottingham-born actress’ character try and get rid of the new mother before Paula’s dramatic arrest.
As well as the 33-year-old’s professional career going from strength-to-strength, McClure and Owen, who’s behind Welsh football film Don’t Take Me Home, recently celebrated their fifth anniversary together at the Celtic Manor with a surprise stay in the Presidential Suite.
The couple met on the set of feelgood film Svengali, a tale about a music fanatic who wants to make it in the industry.
