Stoppage-time agony as Dragons denied victory
BARROW ............................ 1 WREXHAM ........................ 1
WREXHAM were denied by Moussa Diarra’s leveller six minutes into stoppage time at Holker Street – moments after sub Paul Rutherford appeared to have snatched an unlikely win for Dean Keates’ men.
In what was a fairly even start, Oliver Shenton and Jordan White had early sights of goal for Wrexham while at the other end Paul Turnball’s free-kick for the hosts forced keeper Chris Dunn, pictured, into an awkward save.
Liam Hughes fired over after Diarra headed a free-kick down into this path while White had another effort on goal before the break but headed just over after getting on the end of a decent team move from the visitors.
Keates will have been fairly satisfied but it was Barrow who looked the more likely after the break.
Sub Inih Effiong had a good chance on 67 minutes but headed straight at Dunn and, with the hosts firmly on top, Diarra headed another chance just wide moments later.
With the game heading for a goalless draw, the Dragons netted in comical scenes in the dying moments with Rutherford, against his former club, chasing what looked like a lost cause and netting after keeper Jon Flatt sliced the ball straight into his path.
However, Diarra’s looping header over the stranded Dunn meant it was honours even.
