Call for public feedback on Dolffin Quay scheme

- Sion Barry Business editor sion.barry@walesonline.co.uk

The public are being invited to have their say on proposals to build a 20-storey apartment tower and leisure scheme in Cardiff Bay known as Dolffin Quay.

The scheme, planned for a threeacre site near the existing historic Norwegian Church, was first revealed by Associated British Ports (ABP) last year.

At its heart would be a 20-storey apartment block providing 200 apartments, with panoramic views across the city and the Bristol Channel.

The plans for Dolffin Quay also include:

A new park, public realm and open space at the heart of the scheme.

Waterfront shops and restaurants in three new kiosks, as well as in two dockside and bayside buildings and the ground floor of the apartment tower.

Five additional homes in the dockside building.

A new promenade linking the scheme to Mermaid Quay and Porth Teigr.

Members of the public are being asked to give their views as part of a statutory 28-day public consultation period that runs until April 17.

The responses will inform ABP’s planning application submission to Cardiff council.

The site comprises Britannia Quay and Britannia Park, as well as hardstanding formerly used as the Cardiff Bay Visitor Centre.

ABP has already undertaken preplanning discussions with Cardiff council officials and a series of stakeholder meetings. And last November it held a public exhibition on its Dolffin vision.

Rhys Morgan, property manager at ABP South Wales, said: “Our proposals aim to support the City of Cardiff Council’s aspiration for the Bay’s continued regeneration, and have evolved in response to the feedback we have received over the past few months.

“We want Cardiff to rival other capital cities across the globe.

“We’re looking forward to sharing our planning application with the local community and gathering feedback so we have the best possible proposal for this important area of the Bay.”

A planning application could be made in the spring.

ABP will not develop the scheme itself but, subject to planning, would sell the site on to a developer.
