Tributes to mum of four after sudden death
TRIBUTES have been paid to a talented singer and mother of four who died suddenly after collapsing at home.
Sioned Wyn Roberts died on Tuesday despite desperate attempts by her partner, Daniel Jones, and paramedics to save her after she collapsed at her house in Yr Hendre, Caernarfon.
Her devastated brother Meilir said: “They really did fantastic work and carried on after getting her pulse to try and resuscitate her at Ysbyty Gwynedd for another hour and a half.”
But the 33-year-old former Ysgol yr Hendre and Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen pupil died at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, at 5.45am.
Meilir, 40, said his sister loved music and sang in a women’s choir, CôrNarfon, formed to compete at this year’s National Eisteddfod on Anglesey, and was planning to take part in an audition for The Voice today.
She had also taken part in talent shows on S4C.
He added: “She particularly liked songs with meaning to them and love songs. Among her favourite artists were Celine Dion and Bette Midler. She was trying to compete in The Voice after taking part in a similar Welsh show a few years ago. She also wanted to try X Factor because she had the confidence.”
Meilir said his sister was a devoted mum and committed to her family.
Both had been brought up by their mother, Heather, after their father, Huw, died in an accident while working on the Channel Tunnel in the 1990s when Meilir was 15 and Sioned just eight.
“We had always been close – as brother and sister and as a family. Sioned’s children were everything to her and she was able to enjoy life.”
Sioned and Daniel had four children – Holly, 12, Sion, 10, Hannah, nine, and Sam, six.
Her aunt, Enid Jones, of Penygroes, said: “It’s been a massive shock to us all and we’re all devastated. She was a real darling. She loved to sing.”
One of the leaders of CôrNarfon ladies choir, Manon Elis, said: “I’d known her for years and I knew she was going for The Voice. Everybody’s in shock. It’s a huge loss. Our sympathies are with the family.”
