Wales to have its own weekly lottery with £25,000 jackpot

-

WALES is to have its own weekly lottery with a jackpot of £25,000.

Details of Loteri Cymru – a new allWales society lottery – have been unveiled today, including how the weekly “loto” draw has a jackpot of £25,000, the maximum the lottery can offer under society lottery rules.

Proceeds will go towards grassroots community causes throughout Wales.

The “loto” jackpot winners will need to match five of 39 drawn numbers, while there will be other prizes on offer for matching fewer numbers.

Tickets are priced at £1 and can be bought by anyone aged 16 or over at www.loteri.cymru from Monday, April 10. The weekly draw will be broadcast on S4C – Loteri Cymru’s broadcast partner – at 8pm every Friday, starting on April 28.

Players will have a better than one in nine chance of winning a prize, and every ticket – unless it has scooped the jackpot – will be entered into loto+ – a monthly raffle offering 10 guaranteed £1,000 prizes.

The first loto+ draw will also take place on April 28.

Chaired by WRU chairman and former Wales rugby international Gareth Davies, operator Loteri Cymru is a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC).

Mr Davies said it was a “win-win” situation for people in Wales – with the affordable ticket and money benefiting local communities at the same time.

He said: “We are launching Loteri Cymru to create a win-win for the people and communities of Wales, where individuals can afford to try their luck at winning a life-enhancing jackpot and their local communities benefit, too.”
