Star plays a Blinder on fan’s 30th birthday
HOLLYWOOD A-lister Tom Hardy gatecrashed the 30th birthday party of a Denbighshire fan.
Hardy is currently filming the BBC gangster series Peaky Blinders in Liverpool alongside Irish actor Cillian Murphy.
Michael Cattell, who lives in Prestatyn, was celebrating his birthday with his family in the swanky Laurent Perrier suite at the Shankly Hotel in Liverpool last Thursday, when they heard a knock on the door.
Michael’s mother, Marie, said when she saw Tom Hardy walk into their suite she had no idea who he was.
“I didn’t have a clue, and as he was walking in with his dog I was about to tell him that dogs weren’t allowed in the hotel,” said Marie, who lives in Rhos-on-Sea.
“But my son, Michael, just stood up and flung his arms around him, as he’s a big fan.
“Tom asked if he could see the suite as it was apparently bigger than his, and so had a look around. He walked in with a minder and his dog, who was adorable, we all made a fuss of him too.”
Before his visit the family had already heard rumours the actor was staying at the hotel.
They asked the receptionists, who wouldn’t confirm or deny the actor was staying.
“My daughter, Laura, told them that if he was it would be great if he could come and say happy birthday to her brother, Michael,” said Marie.
“That’s why he came up to our room, which is just so nice of him.
“He’s just really down to earth and posed for pictures with the girls and the lads.
“We were all going out for a meal, but I bet if we’d asked him he would have come back for a drink later on as it turned out his room was only two doors down from ours.”
