Drunk roofer floored bouncer with a kick

-

A DRUNKEN roofer landed a bouncer in hospital for nine days after he delivered a martial arts-style kick that knocked him straight to the floor.

Jordan Paull, from Ebbw Vale, later told police he could not remember the incident.

Sentencing at Newport Crown Court, Recorder Peter Rouch QC noted the victim’s injuries were “fairly devastating”.

The incident occurred at The Buffs bar in Station Road, Brynmawr, on October 23 last year.

Prosecutors said complainant Gavin Hughes broke up “a scuffle” involving the defendant just before 9pm and warned him to calm down.

Crown prosecutor Jason Howells said someone reported damage to the radiator in the toilets at around 11pm and Mr Hughes confronted the defendant.

The court heard Paull then kicked the door.

Mr Hughes tried to take Paull to the front of the bar to talk to him, but the defendant attacked him.

The 24-year-old, from Waunheulog, Nantyglo, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Caroline Rees, in mitigation, said: “There is overwhelming remorse in this case.”

She asked for a suspended sentence, but the judge said the incident was too serious. Paull was jailed for 20 months and must pay a £140 victim surcharge.
