Striker Zohore doubtful for Molineux

-

NEIL Warnock is sweating on the fitness of striker Kenneth Zohore ahead of Cardiff City’s Championship clash with Wolves today.

The Dane has been in blistering form since the turn of the year, with his brace in the 3-1 win over Ipswich taking his goal tally to 10 for the season.

His impressive run earned him a call-up to the Denmark Under-21 side for their two friendly fixtures over the international break.

But Zohore stayed in Wales having suffered a calf injury that meant he was unable to represent his country’s Under-21 side in their games against Spain and England.

And Warnock revealed that — while Zohore will travel with the squad to Molineux — the Dane could miss Cardiff’s next two matches against Wolves and Barnsley.

“Zohore was the biggest worry, there was a slight problem on the scan (on his calf),” said the Cardiff boss. “He did some light stuff yesterday and is travelling to Wolves. We wouldn’t be surprised if he’s involved in the next two games.

“But you just don’t know with calf injuries, I had a few in my time, some took 10 days and some took three weeks to recover.

“We don’t want to make it worse so if there’s any doubt we said not to push it and keep him away until next weekend.”

The Yorkshireman has made no secrets of his desire to fire the Bluebirds into the promised land of the Premier League next season.

And Warnock fully expects start striker Zohore to remain with the club as they look to launch a promotion challenge next term.

“I don’t get carried away,” added Warnock.

“When someone’s done it for three months, it’s nice to see they’ve had consistency. But it doesn’t guarantee anything until they’ve done it for a few seasons.

“That’s why I think he’ll be with us next season and I think he needs to stay with us. It fits like a glove at the moment and he needs to play another 35-40 games next season.

“If he scores 20 goals next season I imagine half of the Premier League will be after him. He’s got all the attributes. And I think myself and Cardiff are perfect for him.”
