White set for return up front at Dragons

-

IT looks like Wrexham striker Jordan White’s spell as a makeshift defender will come to an end in today’s derby clash with Tranmere at The Racecourse (12.15pm).

White filled in at the heart of defence and impressed during the 1-1 draw against Torquay, but Olly Marx, who missed the clash with a head injury, is due back today.

“It was more of a precaution but Olly is available to train now. It is seven days since he had the initial bang and he feels fine,” said boss Dean Keates.

“What happened at the weekend was forced upon us. Jordan did well and I couldn’t ask any more of what he did in there.

“But he is a centre-forward and he needs to be judged on being a centre-forward.

“Olly wanted to play last weekend but ultimately the lad’s welfare is the most important thing.

“That didn’t happen but he is available for the weekend.”

With James Jennings starting a three-game ban against Torquay, on-loan midfielder Ollie Shenton deputised at left-back and he is set to continue in defence against Tranmere in the match to be televised live by BT Sport.

“I thought Ollie did well,” said Keates. “He is here for his development and getting minutes on the pitch against men.

“He has been outstanding in midfield and he is another one who just slipped in there at the weekend.

“It is something he can benefit from, it is a different experience from being in the middle of the park.

“He might be someone that we consider again there for the weekend or we may look at changing the shape and see how things go.”

Rovers go into the game level on points with league leaders Lincoln City, only behind on goal difference in the standings.

Micky Mellon’s side have won their last three matches with a 1-0 win over play-off chasing Dover Athletic on Tuesday the latest of those.

Mellon saud: ““Wrexham are a big club with a huge history and traditions. It’s a derby game and it’s on TV and we’ll take a big following so the game on its own, without what’s at stake, will be a fantastic occasion.

“We’re really looking forward to it. You want to be involved in these types of games and we’re grateful that we are because we’ve put a lot of hard work in to be involved in this.

“We would love a victory, especially given what’s at stake, it’s a massively important game and one we’re looking forward to.”
