Murder investigation after man dies following nightclub ‘attack’

-

A MAN who died after being attacked outside a nightclub was a “true gentleman” who had only recently become a father again, writes Tom Davidson.

Henry Esin was last night named locally as the 27-year-old who was seriously injured in the incident on Dean Street close to Peep in Bangor in the early hours of Saturday.

Police yesterday confirmed he had died in hospital and a murder investigation was now under way.

Known to friends as “Romeo”, Mr Esin was from London and studied at Bangor University. He lived in Llangefni, Anglesey, and worked at the Department of Work and Pensions. He had played for Gaerwen, Llangefni, Llangoed and Beaumaris football teams as well as his current team Llanfairpwll.

Its player-manager Steve Smith paid tribute to Mr Esin, saying the Arsenal fan was a “true gentleman” and a “really, really nice guy” who would do “anything asked of him”.

He said: “He was one of the nicest guys I will ever meet. It is a huge loss for anyone who knew him.”

Mr Esin was transferred to Stoke hospital after he was attacked, but died yesterday.

A man, 26, from the Bangor area, was arrested after the incident, and has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder following Mr Esin’s death.

He remained in police custody last night after detectives were granted an extension to the time they can hold him to question him.

DCI Brian Kearney said: “Police were called at 1.53am on Saturday, April 1, following reports that a man had been found in an unconscious state outside the nightclub.”
