Police search for ‘pretend’ cop

A WANNABE traffic cop has reportedly set himself up near Swansea, pulling over drivers in a vehicle complete with blue flashing lights

Police are investigat­ing a report of a man impersonat­ing police in the Swansea Valley.

It comes after a member of the public is believed to have reported an incident as they were travelling along the Pontardawe bypass.

They claimed to have been pulled over by a car with flashing lights on its roof. But when they stopped, they discovered that it was not the police who had pulled them over, but someone pretending to be a traffic officer.

It is understood that the mystery driver had placed a homemade set of lights on his vehicle’s roof in order to stop the unnamed driver who he accused of speeding.

The shocked driver is understood to have later reported the incident to the police who have now confirmed they have launched an investigat­ion.

A spokesman said: “South Wales Police received a report of a male impersonat­ing a police officer on the A4067 – within the Pontardawe area. We are continuing to investigat­e the incident and would urge any witnesses to come forward and quote occurrence: 1700124779.

“The incident was reported at 1.40pm on Monday and is believed to have taken place shortly beforehand.”
