RAVE reviews by its own students has resulted in Bangor University being shortlisted for 10 Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017, including the main University of the Year title.

While a total of 44 universities have been nominated across the 12 categories, Bangor University has been nominated for more awards than any other university.

Bangor University won the 2016 Whatuni award for Best Accommodation in the UK, and this year’s nominations range from clubs and societies to student support, courses and lecturers and university facilities.

The university has also been shortlisted in the new categories of postgraduate and giving back, where students were asked to rate their University of the year Student support Clubs and societies Job prospects University facilities Accommodation Courses and lecturers International Postgraduate Giving back university on how much it gives back to the community, whether that be globally or locally.

The Whatuni student rankings are based on averages taken from tens of thousands of reviews submitted by students and published on Whatuni. com.

“I’m delighted that the university has again this year received so many nominations in these awards,” said Professor John G Hughes, the university’s Vice-Chancellor.

“Being nominated for 10 awards on the strength of our students’ responses is a resounding endorsement, and reflects our focus on providing teaching excellence and an all-round student-centred university experience. I’m pleased that our current students appreciate their time in Bangor and that so many choose to take such an active part in the life of the university,” added Professor Hughes.

Professor Carol Tully, Pro ViceChancellor (students), said: “We enjoy a close working relationship with our students and partner with them to constantly improve their experience at Bangor University. We are also extremely proud of the support provided for our students by our staff across the university who work tirelessly to make the student experience at Bangor so special.”

The Whatuni nominations are the latest accolades for Bangor University, which has seen the excellence of its teaching and the overall student experience endorsed in a number of external surveys.

For instance, last month Bangor University was ranked 12th in the UK in a new university experience survey published by Times Higher Education. The university was among the top performers in the ‘academic experience’ measure, reflecting the high standard of teaching and pastoral support.

Bangor’s outstanding results in the annual National Student Survey means the university is also ranked in the top 15 in the UK for student satisfaction, and ranked top in Wales and fourth in the UK for academic support.
