15,000 sign petitions to save timelord museum in capital’s bay
ALMOST 15,000 people have signed two petitions calling for the Doctor Who Experience to be saved.
The much-loved exhibition is set to close its doors this summer when a five-year lease on the Cardiff Bay site comes to an end.
Now 12,187 people on one site have called for the tourist attraction to stay. A further 2,845 have added their weight on another.
“Everyone deserves to see the museum of their favourite timelord,” it says on one of the petitions, started on change.org by Steve Van Teeffelen, in the Netherlands.
The other, on the 38degrees petition site, is run by Bex Ferriday, from Splott, Cardiff.
“It puts Cardiff on the map and it gives it a real individuality,” the 46-year-old said.
“There is no other city in the UK that has a museum dedicated to a rubbish old sci-fi show.
“It gives us a unique identity. It’s also about bringing money to Cardiff, and tourism is a good way to do that.”
The decision to axe the Experience has left thousands of fans stunned.
“Cardiff is the home of Doctor Who and it is a massive worldwide phenomenon,” Bex said.
Cardiff Council has previously pointed out that the five-year sublease was always due to end this summer and that the site would be developed as part of the ongoing Porth Teigr regeneration project.
