Six people questioned in probe over ‘neglect’ at care home
SIX people have been quizzed under caution by detectives as part of a probe into allegations of neglect and poor care at a nowclosed care home.
North Wales Police have been investigating the conditions for residents at Plas y Bryn, in Bontnewydd, near Caernarfon, since November 2015.
The home housed more than 60 people, including many with dementia, and was shut in January following several critical reports by the Care and Social Services Inspectorate for Wales (CSSIW). As part of the ongoing police investigation six people connected to the home were interviewed under caution by North Wales Police between January and March of this year.
Senior investigating officer DCI Andy Williams said: “The investigation into allegations of poor care standards and neglect at the Plas y Bryn Care Home in Bontnewydd continues.
“Between January and March six people connected to the home attended a police station on a voluntary basis and were interviewed under caution.
“An investigation file has now been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).”
The CPS is now considering if charges will be brought against the owners, managers or staff.
In the months before the investigation was launched CSSIW published a number of damning reports into the standard of care at the home.
The Daily Post understands members of staff at the CSSIW were required to help detectives with interviewing some former residents at the home because of the poor state of their health.
A CSSIW report in April last year said residents had been at a “risk of harm”.
The inspectorate said: “We found people remain at risk of harm to their life, health and wellbeing because insufficient action has been taken by the registered provider to ensure staff are skilled and knowledgeable about how to meet people’s needs.”
The care home building was sold in February for £600,000.
The CPS was approached for comment.
