Baby joy as triplets are expected after three family deaths

AMOTHER-TO-BE is set to give birth to identical triplets within a year of three deaths in her family.

The chances of first-time mum Sian Williams, 31, conceiving three children were 200 million to one.

She says the joy of expecting three identical girls has helped the family cope with the shock loss of her father and two grandparents.

The babies are due in May – on the first anniversary of the death of her dad, Kevin, 56, after a heart transplant.

Sian also lost both grandparents on her mother’s side over the next eight months.

She said: “It has been such an emotional time with the anniversary of my dad’s death coming up at the same time.

“I can’t really imagine how we would have coped if this pregnancy didn’t happen when it did.

“It has been so hard but the babies have kept everyone looking forward to something and it’s brought all our family closer together”.

Her father died on May 3 last year following health complications after he had a successful heart transplant.

Finance worker Sian said: “Mum and Dad were married for 38 years and it had been such a worrying time for us when he was in hospital receiving the transplant.

“Before he died he had been back at home and feeling really well. All his tests for signs of rejection were clear.

“We were looking forward to spending some time together as a family.

“We even booked a holiday, but sadly Dad developed an infection in his lungs and then the flu and he didn’t make it.

“Mum is the strongest person I know and she was so brave through losing Dad.

“And then her parents died in the January. I don’t know how she coped.”

Her devoted grandparents, both in their eighties, died within weeks of each other.

Her grandfather, John Watkins, died from a brain tumour, and her grandmother, Rosemary, from a chest infection.

Sian said: “It has been so hard but we have stuck together and have so much love and support from our family. We feel very lucky.”

Now Sian and her partner, Aaron Palfrey, 26, an electrician, have moved into a new house next door to her mum in Cwmbran, Gwent.

Sian said: “It wasn’t planned to live side by side with Mum but when the house came up I knew it was the right thing to do.

“She’d just got the keys to this beautiful new build – and I just fell in love with it.

“Weirdly it just so happened that the buyer for the house next door had pulled out.”

Sian is going for weekly appointments to monitor the progress of the triplets before she has a planned Caesarean section in early May.

Her mum, Julie Williams, 56, said: “It was lovely news to find out Sian was expecting but when we found out it was three we were blown away.

“When I’m in town I can hear people talking about these triplets.

“I can’t thank everybody enough people have been marvellous to us.”
