Catch the classic Bananarama line-up

BRITAIN’S best ’80s girl group Bananarama have reformed with the original line-up for the first time – and they are visiting Cardiff this November. Tickets for this tour went on sale this morning at 9am.

Sara Dallin, Keren Woodward and Siobhan Fahey last performed live together at The Brit Awards in 1988, but the record-breaking group that defined the ’80s are still as popular as ever nearly 30 years later. Formed by the three friends in 1979, their unprecedented success on both pop and dance charts earned them a listing in The Guinness Book of Records as the all-female group with the most chart entries in the world.

Bananarama stormed to the top of the US charts in 1986 with their cover of Shocking Blue’s pop classic Venus. Huge success was secured with a string of UK Top 10 hits including It Ain’t What You Do, Really Saying Something, Shy Boy, Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye, Cruel Summer, Robert De Niro’s Waiting and Love in the First Degree.

Siobhan left the group in 1988 to form pop-rock act Shakespears Sister, and was replaced for three years by Jacquie O’Sullivan. Since 1992, Sara and Keren have toured Bananarama as a duo, but now the original and best line-up is back together much to the delight of fans.

Reunited with her friends at last, Siobhan said: “These were my formative years. I never thought it would happen again. It’s like going back down the road to find a piece of myself that I left back then. The older I get, the more I realise it was pretty magical.”
