Think before you swat any bees this spring

-

Nothing quite beats that anticipation we’re all feeling right now as we begin to head into the summer months. Weeks of blue skies, sunny days and warm weather are now just (fingers crossed) a flip on the calendar page away.

So to celebrate, this issue is dedicated Spring – the warmup to summer where nature and wildlife is at its best.

And, what better way to pay homage to our beautiful green spaces during this wonderful period than to grace them with a bit of dancing – or at least, that’s what one charity wants you to do (page 8).

However, if that’s not quite your thing, then be sure to explore the wonderful woodlands of Wales which are sadly on the decline. It’s why a conservation trust is asking for volunteers to help prevent them shrinking even further (page 7).

When you do leave the house and enjoy the great outdoors with the inevitable ice cream or cold drink, pay a thought to the humble bee – who will no doubt be attracted to all that sugar.

Pollinators like bees are in decline which poses a risk to food production. It’s one of the reasons Wales has set up a special Bee Protection scheme (page 4) which is calling for organisations to sign up.

Finally, a quick thank you to my colleague Chris Peregrine who has helped coordinate the editorial for this Go Green edition. You can also email him with your green stories at chris.peregrine@ trinitymirror.com. Jack Feeney jack.feeney@mediawales.co.uk
